Compliance & Regulations
What is the DOT drug testing process?
The DOT drug testing process follows strict federal guidelines. It includes a urine sample collection, chain of custody documentation, laboratory analysis, Medical Review Officer (MRO) verification, and reporting of results.
What happens if an employee refuses a drug or alcohol test?
Under DOT regulations, refusing a test is treated as a positive result. The employee must complete the DOT return-to-duty process with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) before resuming safety-sensitive duties.
What substances are included in a DOT drug test?
A standard DOT drug test screens for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and PCP.
How often should I test my employees to remain compliant with DOT regulations?
DOT mandates pre-employment testing and ongoing random testing at specific rates. Additional testing may be required for post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up purposes.
What is the DOT Clearinghouse, and how does it affect my business?
The DOT Clearinghouse is an online database that tracks drug and alcohol violations for CDL drivers. Employers must conduct queries on new hires and report violations.

Testing Process
How long does a drug test take?
The collection process typically takes about 15-20 minutes. However, additional time may be needed for shy bladder situations or breath alcohol confirmations.
Do you offer same-day or emergency testing?
Yes, we provide same-day and after-hours emergency testing for post-accident and reasonable suspicion situations.
What type of drug tests do you perform (urine, hair, saliva, breath alcohol, etc.)?
We offer urine drug testing (DOT and Non-DOT), hair follicle testing, oral fluid (saliva) testing, and breath alcohol testing.
How soon will I receive the test results?
Most urine test results are available within 24-48 hours. Rapid test options may provide results within minutes, while lab-based tests for hair and oral fluids may take 2-4 days.
What happens if an employee tests positive?
For DOT tests, a positive result is reviewed by a Medical Review Officer (MRO), and the employee must complete the return-to-duty process with a SAP. Non-DOT employers can establish their own company policy for handling positive results.
